February 8, 2021 | Press Releases

Kansas City, Missouri and Lincoln, Nebraska - The Cardiometabolic Center Alliance (CMCA), founded by Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute is honored to announce the addition of Bryan Heart as a Charter Member of the Alliance.

As a coalition that seeks to establish Cardiometabolic Centers of Excellence nationwide aimed at transforming the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D), and related cardiovascular (CV) and renal comorbidities, the CMCA considers Bryan Heart an important member of the Alliance.

“Being a part of this national initiative allows us to expand the level of care we provide our patients in new and exciting directions,” said Dr. Keith Miller, Co-Director of Bryan Heart Cardiometabolic Clinic. “We have a long-standing tradition of using preventive therapies to improve the health of our patients. One example is our Lipid Clinic to address cholesterol problems. Now we will have the added focus of helping patients with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and other cardiometabolic risk factors.”

“People with diabetes are at a much higher risk of heart attacks, strokes, and congestive heart failure,” continues Dr. Miller. “In addition to traditional approaches such as weight loss, diet, and exercise, the Cardiometabolic Clinic will bring new treatments, technologies and ways to manage diabetes. These advancements in care will protect patients from heart and vascular disease. And more importantly, help them remain active, healthy, and feeling their best. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!”

“Our mission at the Cardiometabolic Center Alliance is to transform the quality of care and outcomes of patients with cardiometabolic disease by creating Centers of Excellence across the nation which capitalize on the successful clinical care delivery model we developed in Kansas City. The ultimate goal is to diminish the adverse impact of Type 2 Diabetes and its most common and morbid complications: cardiovascular and kidney disease, so that patients have longer and healthier lives regardless of where they live”, said Dr. Mikhail Kosiborod, Executive Director of the Cardiometabolic Center Alliance. “We are excited to partner with Bryan Heart as a Charter Member of the Cardiometabolic Center Alliance as we work together to accomplish these goals.”

“I am incredibly excited about what this means for our patients,” said Dr. Chad Travers, Co-Director of Bryan Heart Cardiometabolic Clinic. “As we continue to learn about the impact of lifestyle and the role of medication to prevent cardiovascular disease, this clinic will bring advances to our patients in a timely manner. We will also collaborate with other specialties. I believe all of this will provide our patients with the best opportunities for success.”
